Better Sundays Begin on Monday

The following is an except from Better Sundays Begin on Monday, David Manner, Executive Director of the Kansas-Nebraska Convention: In the 2000 movie Cast Away, Tom Hanks played Chuck Noland, the lone survivor of a plane crash on an uninhabited island. Early in the movie, Noland realized he couldn’t survive without fire and offered us a glimpse of his resolve, despair, anger, and even humor as he labored over trying to start a fire from scratch. Worship leaders can experience similar emotions when they are expected to light a fire each Sunday with the opening song. And even though congregan...

Soak in the Significance

I love you First Baptist Family! What a wonderful Sunday! The weather outside was frightful, but what God did in FBC was so delightful! Blake and Jenna Bolerjack helped us bring in Christmas and the Word of God reminded us of the great promises fulfilled by the birth of our Lord Jesus. The birth of our Savior brought Forgiveness, Restoration & Deliverance, and Peace. Hallelujah! Dear church family, I am going to ask you to do a difficult thing. Slow this season down. I know 2020 is a year that everyone wants to fast forward and get away from. I understand, I want to do the same thing. H...

End of Year Giving 2020

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Decorations are up. Lights twinkle on trees and houses. Christmas is almost here, followed shortly by a new year. With everything else going on, don’t forget to review your giving for the year. I know 2020 has been an odd year. With all the disruption to our lives and schedules it is easy fall short on our commitments to our church and our God. We don’t mean to forget, but we do. The good news is that it’s not too late. Now is the perfect time to review your giving for the year. Did you honor those commitments to give? Were you faithful? Did you...

Pray for God’s Will

I love you First Baptist Family! I have thoroughly enjoyed walking through Paul’s prayers with you. I have grown leaps and bounds in my personal prayer life and I hope that it has been a blessing to you. I cannot emphasize enough, the importance of what we learned this week. Praying for the knowledge of God’s will is crucial. Many times we look at God’s will as His approval or disapproval. The reality is that God’s will is more than that. There are things that He wants to teach and show us in the process. The knowledge of God’s will often gives clarity and encouragement that helps spur us to ...

Changes Through 2020

We are almost at the end of the 2020 calendar year and it has been a year like no other for the world, our country, and our church. Last February, Pastor Patrick Latham and family moved to Cartersville, Georgia to continue their ministry there.  A very few weeks later COVID19 invaded the world and our country. Trying to ensure the safety of First Baptist Church, it was decided to cease meeting until the crisis had passed. During this time, our Sunday School was held virtually and we turned on our TV’s to watch Joe Ligon teach and preach from God’s Word. That transition was painful to many of ...

Unexpected Blessings

I love you First Baptist Family! Merry Christmas! It is officially time to listen to Christmas music! I forgive you if you listened to it before Thanksgiving, but let’s get it right next year ;)! It was so wonderful to be back with you on Sunday! I felt a little rusty from the time off, but look forward to shaking that rust off over the Sundays ahead. I know that this season that we are walking through with Covid-19 does not seem like a blessing, but I do want to celebrate what I have seen God do in my own life during this time and why I am blessed for it. The first blessing was that I was ex...

A Prayer Request

I love you First Baptist Family! This article is going to be more of a prayer request than a true article. As we approach the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021 there are many joys to thank the Lord for and a few items that I would like for you to add to your prayer list. Let’s talk about joy! After a great meeting with our prospective Children’s Ministry Coordinator and our Children’s Ministry Team, it looks like we have found the one who God has been preparing for our children, families, and church. We are in the process of working out details, but as soon as those things are worked out ...

Vision 2020 Update

This week we have the opportunity to celebrate a holiday called Thanksgiving. Hopefully, we all will enjoy time with family, friends and too much food. Sometimes we think Thanksgiving Day is a day set aside to reflect on those things in our lives that have happened over the last year. We as believers should continually give thanks for what God has given us. As crazy as 2020 has been, as a church, we have many visible things to be thankful for. One, calling Mike Keahbone as our pastor. He has already been an incredible blessing to my family. I hope everyone will take time to experience his lo...
