Satans’ 3 Schemes

When it comes to spiritual warfare, believers are sometimes guilty of one or two extremes.  Some are sensationalistic concerning the topic.  Others are silent.  The former party sees the devil lurking around every corner.  Every struggle and each mishap can be blamed on the pitch-fork wielding bandit.  American comedian Flip Wilson popularized this sentiment with his famous line — “The Devil made me do it!”  Other folks aren’t so keen on the supernatural.  They dismiss doctrines related to demonology as folklore from a far-off era.  In favor of an astute and overly-rationalistic spirituality, ...

4 Ways To Safeguard Your Marriage

Marriage is under attack.  Satan knows that is one of God’s most cherished societal institutions (Matthew 19:4-6).  He also knows that it is a Divine picture of God’s love for humanity (Ephesians 5:25-33).  As a result, he has launched an all out blitz on the sacred union.  As we see struggles with marriage amongst our own families and friends, we are reminded that the Adversary does not want wedded bliss to succeed.  How can we survive his attacks?  Scripture gives us four pieces of advice. Immerse yourself in God’s Word.  When Solomon gave his son wisdom for avoiding adultery, he said, “My s...

Spiritual Teflon

When my wife and I got engaged to be married, we immediately registered for gifts at a local department store.  On our registry, we signed up for a plethora of new kitchen utensils.  At the time, teflon-coated cookware was the craze.  So as we started life as a married couple, our first meals were prepared in “non-stick” pots and pans.   They proved helpful for my wife who was trying her hand at cooking for the first time! When it comes to Christian living, the Lord desires for His people to develop a sort of spiritual teflon.  In Colossians 1:22, Paul spoke of the need for believers to be “bl...

Thank you Church Family for your thoughts and prayers for us as we traveled to France. We traveled to Vitré and Paris, France. Vitré is located 3 hours west of Paris, in a region called Brittany. The population in Vitré is about 17,000 with about 20,000 more in surrounding towns and villages. The majority of the population is Catholic. For many today, Patrice’s church is considered a cult. Attending a church other t...

4 Things That Should Happen Every Time We Go To Church

I can still remember my earliest experiences meeting with God’s people.  My family attended a smaller church.  It had orange carpet and pews.  The ceiling was adorned with massive dark wooden beams and elegant, yet somewhat grim, stained-glass chandeliers.  I recall gazing upward as a youngster, trying to discern the images in the sides of those massive light fixtures.  I don’t remember ever not liking church, but I wasn’t too enthused about it until later.  I was in my post-adolescent years when I became serious about my relationship with Christ.  My spiritual commitment led to a new understa...

Vacation Bible School

In just a few weeks, First Baptist Church will present the gospel to children in our community through Vacation Bible School. Our mission is to reach as many children and their families as possible and lead them to know Jesus Christ. This year’s theme focuses on discovering the God of the universe (Colossians 1:15-16). During the week of June 5 – 9, many of our church members will be busy serving and ministering to the children who attend VBS.  We are still in need of a few more volunteers. If you are able to serve as a guide, greeter, snack helper or bus monitor, we would appreciate your help...
