We are at a critical time within our body of believers, and it is important that we draw upon our strength with one accord.
On January 19th we are going to ordain three men of excellent character to the office of deacon. This is a special time in the lives of these men, and they deserve our prayers and support. These men have gone through a year of study and training to qualify themselves for this office. It has been a little more than ten years since our church has ordained new deacons, and it is past time for us to offer this position in the church to a newer group of men.
Last January our church body nominated, Dave Askew, Kevin Phillips and Gene McAnelly, men of character for the office of deacon. Let me say there were many names submitted that were equally Godly men. Through a vetting process these three were selected for the training.
We are now going through the same process to, hopefully, find suitable men who are willing to follow a call to become a deacon. It is truly a calling that each man must feel that God wants him to enter into that relationship with God, the church and other deacons.
Let me encourage you, as a member of our fellowship, to come and be a part of this special time within our church. It will bless each one that attends. There will be an Ordination Council meeting at 4:00 in the Choir Room, and this is open to any ordained deacon or minister. The service will begin at 5:00 pm in the sanctuary with Pastor Patrick delivering the message and charge. My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will continue to move within our church. I want to thank you for the support you have shown me this past year as I have served as Chairman of the deacon body.
