The Mission Team, along with the Church Staff, has designated the month of July to be Annie Armstrong month. We set a goal of $18,000 for this important offering. The Annie Armstrong offering supports the NAMB’s (North American Mission Board) two major thrusts: evangelism and church planting. Southern Baptists are starting more than 1700 new churches every year, more than any other faith group. NAMB also assists Southern Baptists in connecting with mission opportunities such as disaster relief, refurbishing sub-standard housing, and evangelism efforts. The Annie Armstrong offering helps provide support for over 5,200 missionaries serving throughout the United States, Canada, and their territories.
First Baptist of Lawton has been actively supporting several pastors of the NAMB. Last year Aaron led a team to Phoenix to support Shea Ferguson. We will be sending a team to Portland, Oregon on August 18 to support Adrian Jordon with building a church there. Tony Christy will be leading a team to Edmonton, Alberta Canada on July 10 to assist a new church there. Last month we sent a team to Chicago to help Sam Johnson in his efforts to start a church. Sam will be in our church on July 22, to bring us a message and tell us about his work in Chicago.
The theme for the Annie Armstrong offering and the NAMB is taken from Acts 1:8, “you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When you give to Mission Lawton you are supporting Lawton (Jerusalem), Annie Armstrong supports North America (Judea and Samaria), and your gifts and support aids trips to Latvia, France, and Haiti (the ends of the earth).
So I ask you to not only pray for our mission efforts, but give generously as the Lord directs you.
