If you have been around First Baptist Lawton on a Wednesday evening during the school year, you have undoubtedly heard the clamor of children around the playground, in the children’s building, and echoing in the gymnasium. Contrary to outward appearances, those children have actually been learning about the Bible this past year and having fun doing it! In short, AWANA’s aim is to reach kids, equip leaders, and change the world for God. With a robust cadre of dedicated volunteers who count it a joy to help children learn about God’s word and Jesus, our church has been able to be used in a meaningful way to reach kids. Each week with a structured curriculum and program designed to enable children to commit scripture to memory, helping them hide His word in their hearts we are providing a critical foundation for a Spirit-led walk as they grow into adulthood.
The AWANA program is an hour and a half in length divided into three parts: a large group lecture, one- on-one student to listener interaction, and a team-building physical activity. Of course, this would not be possible without the commitment of members of our church family who are motivated to be difference makers in the lives of our children. If you are interested in being a part of an exciting program that has a lifelong impact on our children, come see what it is all about during our AWANA Commencement on May 22nd. At this event, we will congratulate all of those young graduates who endeavor to “do their best to present themselves to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” 2 Tim 2:15.
