We are almost at the end of the 2020 calendar year and it has been a year like no other for the world, our country, and our church. Last February, Pastor Patrick Latham and family moved to Cartersville, Georgia to continue their ministry there.  A very few weeks later COVID19 invaded the world and our country. Trying to ensure the safety of First Baptist Church, it was decided to cease meeting until the crisis had passed. During this time, our Sunday School was held virtually and we turned on our TV’s to watch Joe Ligon teach and preach from God’s Word. That transition was painful to many of us, but we quickly learned how to meet as a church in our own homes.  In February, a Search Committee began the work of looking for our next pastor.   In July Mike Keahbone was called as the next pastor of our church. What a day of rejoicing we had, as he and his family accepted our call. We are so excited about how God is moving in our church and look forward to seeing people come to Christ and receive Jesus as their Savior.

We are moving quickly in our Vision 2020 project and our new Welcome Center is beautiful.

We are sad to announce that First Baptist Church’s tradition of presenting the Living Christmas Tree has been postponed until 2021. We anxiously await its return next year.

Another annual tradition we hold dear is our Chrismtas Eve Service, I hope many of you are planning to attend. This is a precious and meaningful time for families and individuals to come together and worship. There will be a time for reflecting and partaking in the elements of the Lord’s Supper, congregational song and candle lighting. This year’s service will be a little different than in recent years. Due to safety and concern, we will not have the family units walk forward for prayer and partaking of the elements. Instead, the elements and prayer will take place as everyone stays comfortable in the pews. Thank you for your understanding and participation in this way. We look forward to seeing you at 5:00pm, Thursday, December 24. May God bless you this Christmas and throughout the next year!

As this year closes, I am reflecting on God’s blessing in my own life as well as our church. It is so good to know God is Sovereign and He has these days and our future in His hands. May God richly bless each of you during the 2021 year. I love you my dear family in Christ.
